Dear Fellow Odians, My name is Syb Roell. Born in the Netherlands but since 2001 living with our family in Rockport, Massachusetts. Rockport is a lovely small lobster village with all the characteristics New England is known for. We enjoy the harsh winters...the more snow storms the better (kids always hoping for one more snow day)...and great summers. Bernard Shaw wrote –“ The true joy of life. The being used for a purpose. The being a force of nature… I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is not a brief candle to me. It is a splendid torch, which I’ve got to hold up for the moment. I want to burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations” – His view on life inspires me. When in my student years my friends wrote about me 'Das wichtigste ist die ungehuerte energy richtig zu wenden (‘most important is to use the endless energy effectively')...and that quote was quite on the mark... Well, during the launch of Ode in the USA my candle burned on two sides and Bernard Shaw would have smiled. Clearly you got to find the balance between burning bright and long lasting. With the new Ode organization established in Mill Valley I have handed over my operational tasks and got my hands free again to explore my new contribution. On the horses…let’s create and have fun!
