I am a romantic curmudgeon, a starry-eyed cynic, a passionately curious youth inhabiting an aging but still fit body. I have been, and still am, a landscape architect, a writer, an artist, a photographer and a maker of objects. My accomplishments are mostly personal and intimate, difficult to see and more difficult to measure, except for fathering an extraordinary son. I take great pleasure and satisfaction in seeing how many of my landscapes have tranformed their owner's relationship to the earth and brought them more in touch with the community of nature. In the time I have left, I want to be part of a large and concerted, focused and energized effort to help people on a large scale to appreciate and understand their place and role on the planet, and to inspire them to embrace a more cooperative and communal way of life. My role in all of this is to encourage and inspire as many people as possible to garden, to grow their own food and to nurture their own landscapes. Our gift to the future should be a healthier, thriving and beautiful planet. Now it's time to plant.
