I am a happy grandmother raising an 8-year-old grandson in Denver, Colorado. Originally from Crystal City, Texas, our family moved to Colorado in 1965. My father was part of the civil rights movement of the 60s, involved in overturning a long-term incumbency in our small Texan town in 1963 known as the Crystal City Revolt or the Crystal City Experiment. He and four others were handpicked for a political experiment spearheaded by PASSO, Political Association of Spanish Speaking Organizations. Historical Hispanic political history was made with the highest Hispanic voter turnout ever. They won the city election to become the first Hispanic Mayor and City Council in Crystal. Dr. King, Jr., jailed in Burmingham, called to congratulate them on election night. My father had marched with Dr. King during his famous "I Have A Dream" rally. We left Crystal due to the severe persecussion and death threats. Due to the effects of this, I grew up A-political and never voted until Obama ran for office. I received a degree in Technical Journalism from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and moved to Denver to raise my son and teach. I continue my father's legacy as a peaceful human rights activist and have learned to accept the natural flow of events that will lead us to a much brighter future as a people. My heart's desire is to use my life experience and bilingual writing skills to benefit mankind along the way...still waiting for my true calling on the path of enlightment!
