Monica Tannian and Milk Money Consulting Studio veteran Monica Tannian created Milk Money Consulting, Inc. after several years of managing Dallas Austin’s DARP Studios. The company’s focus: to provide a service to support the hardest working, least recognized craftsmen of the music business: engineers, songwriters and musicians. Monica got her start setting up band equipment, running lights and negotiating with club owners while managing Philly rock bands in the mid 80’s nights and working at the Bureau of Economics at the University of Delaware by day. Her career became slightly more stable and definitely less loud when Monica found her niche as a studio manager at Kajem Recording. Tucked into an old school, blue blood suburb of Philadelphia, Kajem became an unlikely home for some of the biggest hard rock bands of the late 80’s, like Cinderella, Queensryche and Metal Church. Near the end of Monica’s time at Kajem, she met young up-and-coming producer Dallas Austin, who was recording the first Boyz II Men record. Several years later, Dallas invited Monica to move to Atlanta and help repair the faltering DARP (Dallas Austin Recording Projects) Studios. Monica reorganized the four-room facility physically and fiscally. DARP Studios buoyed to the surface, profitable and creatively nourishing, becoming one of the country’s top recording studios. Monica brainstormed the idea for Milk Money. Her underlying tenant in assembling the Milk Money roster was to work with good and capable people. Soon after establishing her engineers and musicians, Milk Money started to offer its services to producers and studios. In a conscious effort to balance development of a new business within the music industry along with her sanity, her yoga practice and meditation provided her an anchor. Monica actively encourages and supports the same self- balance for her staff and clients. Encouraging her clients to do service and to be active in life outside the studio, she has been helping her sister Joyce, who lives in Kenya, on a water relief called “Kenya: Water is Life.” In 2007 alone, Milk Money had 20 Grammy nominated projects via engineers/musicians and producers, and six Grammy wins.
