I am a rural public high school language arts teacher since 1970, living 35 years with my husband, a fourth-generation family farmer/stockman, on the family farm in north-central Kansas, where we brought up our two children to make a positive contribution to the world. One is a doctor; the other, a teacher, and both married delightful, creative and loving spouses. We have one grandson, two and a half years old, and our large, wide-spread extended family continues to strengthen us, and we, them. Every day, even in mostly rural America, I see young people whose vision of the world is either short-sighted, mis-directed or frighteningly angry. Approaching the age of sixty, I hope I can continue to broaden their view of the world, their potential to save it, and their trust that adult life is worth living.
