I am a believer in the preciousness of each individual. I hate ignorance, injustice, oppression, intentional disregard for others and their well-being, close-mindedness, pride and haughty behaviour, laziness, and being unwilling to see those who are different as individuals made in the image of our Creator.
For the past five years, I worked as a professor and we asked students to connect their faith with public life. The things which I profess are listed in the first paragraph--they stem from my study of Scriptures of various faith traditions and from my faith. If I ask my students to make connections, I must also ask the same of myself...and, although I am a confirmed bibliophile, sometimes, more is learned from example than from all the words in all the books.
I have hope that peace and reconciliation are possible, that justice and truth are necessary, and that what we do today impacts directly the world in which we will live tomorrow.
