Cinemocracy is an open-source, online film festival that allows anyone to submit a film up to five-minutes in length. The top vote-getting films as determined by the online public will be screened at a free, public event during the DNC and will also be screened at the GOP convention in September. The idea behind Cinemocracy is to engage citizen participation during this monumental event so as to limit disenfranchisement among citizens and model democracy in the community as it happens in practice at the convention. This initiative is a partnership between Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, the Denver Film Society and was catalyzed by the Host Committee. To see the site please go to http://www.cinemocracy.org
MY JOURNAL:

Hey guys,

So I still feel like I'm losing my mind... so if I seem a little jumbled, forgive me :)

Voting is totally on the upswing!! Which I am really excited about! You guys are getting people on to vote and view your films, which is just amazing! Hopefully I'm bringing in a couple of those votes, but mostly it's you guys. So give yourselves a good cheer and keep on talking to your friends and family!!

Speaking of voting, we have figured out how we are going to determine the top 10 films... it is a weighted system based on the films that have the highest votes. So if you want to you can get a general idea of who's doing well by looking at their film page. Underneath the stars (where you vote) you will see an average vote and how many people have voted. That should be able to give you a general idea if you want one :)

We have been working like crazy on the Cinemocracy ROCKS! party... it will be held on August 25th at Red Rocks Amphitheater. GOOD magazine has sponsored this event, so a BIG thanks to everyone over there at GOOD! There will be special tickets (which include reserved seating, free parking, and a years subscription to GOOD magazine) called GOOD tickets that will go on sale August 4th. These tickets are $20 a piece. The other half of the tickets will be free (first come first serve basis, and you have to pay for parking in the lot, $10) and will also be released on August 4th. As soon as I know, I will fill you guys in on where you can pick up your GOOD or free tickets!

I hope you'll are getting excited... it's getting close. As soon as I know more about the music line-up I will let you guys know that too! It's looking good, but I don't want to put anything out there that I'm not sure about yet.

Remember to keep an eye out on our About Us page. We're adding to it almost daily now, and it's an awesome resource for any of our filmmakers out there! So check back there whenever you can, it will be well worth it... I promise :)

Alright all, like I said my mind is close to being "lost" so I'm going to bounce for now. If I get anything exciting I will let you'll know.

Talk to you soon, A

Hello Everybody,

We have received a TON of new films these past couple of weeks, and I am so thrilled to see that filmmakers are finishing up and getting their submissions in!! I also wanted to tell you that these same filmmakers are doing an awesome job of getting responses from the outside public! As we all know I try and do as much promotion as I possibly can... but the promotion that you guys do on your own can be a BIG help too! I'm working on getting that image created for voting, so you'll can post it or e-blast it out. I will let you know as soon as it's done!

We are getting super cereal about the festival... We're pounding out the details as I type and this will be the first place you can go to get the nitty-gritty! Currently we're working on getting some music up at Red Rocks for the shin-dig, and let me tell you, you will not be disappointed! So keep an eye out for updates on tickets and schedules... I wouldn't want you to miss any of the fun stuff we're planning!

The next Film on the Rocks will be this coming Thursday, they are screening "The Breakfast Club." In a very appropriate gesture, Gina and I will be there with a picnic full of breakfast food. So if you're in the mood, and in town, come on up and find us. It's kind of a pot-luck thing, so if you're coming bring a breakfast food and join us for the picnic party! I'm thinking that in order to make it easier for you to find us I'm going to make a Cinemocracy sign that we'll have up by our seat. That way you'll know who we are, because that's kind of important if you're coming to picnic right?

Lastly I want to tell all of the newly submitted filmmakers that if you have any pictures of your shoot, or took any celebratory pictures after you were done filming, SEND THEM TO ME!!! I really want to get some pictures up on our site and our social network sites so that people can see all the hard work you'll put into these films. Email your pictures to me at acallis@cinemocracy.org and make sure to include captions :) I look forward to seeing whatever you guys send in!

Alright, I have got to get back to planning (I am so overly excited about this that it might be a little disgusting :). So have a good day, and I'm sure I'll be talking to you'll soon!

Cinemocracy ROCKS the party that ROCKS the party!!

Hello Ladies and Germs ;)

Sorry this one's so late... it's been a crazy day, but in a really good way! I have a couple of cool things to tease you with... I don't have full disclosure quite yet, but as soon as I do you will be the first to know :).

Ok, first I would like to say that we have received SO MANY new films this week that my head is spinning round like a record (you spin me right round baby right round :)! Please watch the new films guys, I have seen every single one and recommend that anyone who reads this does the same... and of course, you knew this was coming, if you're going to take the time to watch you might as well take the time to VOTE!!

On the subject of voting, I wanted to make sure that everyone knows what's up with that situation. The way we work our voting is by the five star system. So if you've viewed a film on Cinemocracy.org and you're ready to vote... just look for the five grey colored stars that should be underneath the description and information about the film. All you have to do click on how many stars you think the film should have. You don't need to create an account or anything like that. Now, if you feel moved enough to comment on any particular film then you do need to create an account for that... but as far as voting goes it is a FREE FOR ALL, so have at it!!! And like I always say, my email address is acallis@cinemocracy.org so if you need help or have any questions PLEASE email me... I pretty much am on my blackberry ALL the time :)

Here in the week, hopefully, I will be sending out an e-blast to everyone we have an email contact for, and a couple of other special people that have requested to be on our list. This email will include some detailed info about the Cinemocracy Film Festival as well as an image for all or our filmmakers out there to use at their disposal! This image will be specifically created for the purposes of getting your entire email contact list to get on a VOTE. You can e-blast it, you can post it on your webpage, you can post it on myspace or facebook or blogger or anywhere you can possibly think of that someone might see it and come and vote on your film. I'm thinking that sending you guys an image might be easier than getting you to email me with a request for a blurb to send out :). Don't worry my feelings aren't hurt (insert pouty face here). So if you gave us a fake email to sign up and you want access to this image... email me your real email address and I will add you to our list. I can promise you that we don't send out too many e-blasts and they always come through me, so your info isn't going anywhere!

Now... it just seems to never-end right? I told you it was a busy day...

Cinemocracy ROCKS is the grand finale of ALL grand finales! This is going to be the final shindig on August 25th! It will officially be held up at Red Rocks Amphitheater Monday evening. We are currently working out the ticket situation... it looks like our friends over at GOOD magazine are setting up some sweet little packages for those of you who wouldn't mind dropin' a couple of bucks on a ticket (hint, hint, wink, wink)! And just keep in mind that we are working on getting our "entertainment" situation handled... there will be music and there will be film!!! Do you need anything else in life, I mean besides food (which will technically be there), and maybe refreshing beverages (which will also technically be there :), so pretty much what I'm getting at is that we will have everything you could possibly want in a festival... BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!

And like I said earlier... I will be bringing you more details about tickets and things like that as I get them. I promise I will keep you in the same loop I'm in... even if it's considered the CrAzY one!

Don't forget... my email address is acallis@cinemocracy.org and you can email me day or night, I usually respond within at least a couple of hours.

Talk to you'll soon,

A

Brain, brain, go away... ;)

Hello All!

I hope everyone had a good weekend, I know that I enjoyed mine! I am however feeling a little off today, so I'm not going to write too much, and you know if I forget anything I'll just write again later ;).

We received SEVEN new video's last week!!! So if you haven't seen them yet, go to the "View New Submissions" tab and check them out... and remember to VOTE on them too :P

I don't know how many of you have a facebook account, but Cinemocracy has a group page there. I've been slowly but surely attempting to add our facebook friends to our facebook group, so if I haven't sent you an invite for our group yet... get on and search for us!!! Besides reading our blog (hint, hint, wink, wink), the group page is the fastest way to get updates as to what's going on with us!

Alright guys, for now my brain isn't pulling anything new out so... I will be back on later if my brain finally starts working :) For now... Good Night, and Good Luck.

... you can't help respecting somebody who can spell Tuesday, even if he doesn't spell it right :)

Hello everyone!

I hope this beautiful Tuesday (check the spelling... decided to go for a normal spelling today) is finding you well! I have a couple of repetitive things to say... so bear with me :)

I've posted up our weekly videos to youtube and facebook! So I know that you've most likely already watched them (hint, hint, wink, wink, if you haven't), but if you have any friends that you think might be interested in entering, or voting... get them on either one of those sites for a little sample! Remember that I change them every week, so if you haven't seen your film up yet, don't worry, I promise I'm keeping track :).

Since I mentioned it... VOTING!! I've been trying my hardest to promote voting... but I need your help! Like I said earlier, if you want me to write up a quick e-blast you can send to out, just let me know. I can come up with something quick and fun for you to send out, and I'll even personalize it for free!

Speaking of film submissions... We've been having a couple issues with the file types that filmmakers have been submitting. And it's completely our fault! I've noticed that we don't have exact requirements or recommendations for submissions. SO... I am working with our web consultant from Civic Pixel to get together a detailed blurb for us. As soon as we get that done I will email to everyone as well as post it everywhere I possibly can. I really wouldn't want to lose a film just because of a formatting issue. That would definitely make me a sad panda :(

On the upswing, has anyone Googled us lately? I do it every once in awhile... you know it's just as tempting as Googling your own name :) Well if you haven't... YOU SHOULD! It's pretty awesome how many people are talking about us, and blogging about us, and how many hits Cinemocracy.org is getting. It's great news for all of you who have submitted films. I'm pretty excited about it!

Ok, I'm almost done... I promise. The last thing I wanted to remind you guys of is to send me your pictures! Like I said before, if you took pictures while you filmed, or have pictures of you at a Cinemocracy event, GET THEM TO ME!! I want some evidence that you guys are AWESOME and that Cinemocracy follow suit! Remember that when you send them (acallis@cinemocracy.org) make sure to include captions. I want names of those in the photo as well as the title of your film submission (if you have one) and the name of the photographer! I wouldn't want anyone getting left out of all of this fun!

Alright guys, I got to GET. I'm sure I'll talk to you soon,

A

P.S. by the way... did I mention that I like how I can use Google in the past tense AND as a verb!!

Monday, 7/ 7/2008 at 12:47 pm

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend, I know we had fun :) We received some patriotic film submissions last week, so if you haven't seen them... (you know the deal) watch them and then VOTE! You guys are doing great at getting people on the site to watch your films!!! We've had a ton of people watching the films... but remember to tell everyone that watching is only part of it, they need to vote too. Like I said there's a ton of people watching, but not everyone is voting!! So get on your friends and family, and anyone else you're sending to the site that they need to watch AND VOTE!! :)

The next Film on the Rocks date is going to be July 9th... they will be showing "40 Year-Old Virgin"! Remember to come up and say Hi, tickets are only $10 if you buy them at King Soopers before the show. The music for that night will be preformed by Opie Gone Bad & Jessica Sonner!!! Doors open at 6pm and music starts at 7! So come down and make a whole night of it, bring a picnic and enjoy the wonderful entertainment and beautiful scenery :D

Start checking our "about us" page to get links to organizations that are working with us to promote Cinemocracy. Those sites can be a BIG help if you're looking for a way to network. Everyone who will be working with us will be an amazing resource for you, or possibly your friends. So just keep in mind to keep checking back to that page!

For now I'm outy-5000!! But I'll be back before you know it :)

Talk to you'll soon,

A

Hi guys!!

I hope this mid-week day is finding everyone well, I know I definitely woke up on the right side of the bed today! So there's a couple of cool things to tell you about today, so I'll just get right to it...

GOOD magazine has decided that they love us just as much as you do!!! Isn't that exciting?! In case you haven't heard... GOOD magazine is online, in print, and at live events to help provide content, experiences and utilities to serve the community. They are an amazing resource! Check out their main site at www.goodmagazine.com, and we also have a link to their site under our "About us" section, in case you forget to write the web address down :P. Keep an eye out over there for our Call for Entries and some other fun promotion stuff for Cinemocracy.

I have loaded a jpeg file to our home page... it is our new promo flyer that we will be sending out to everyone we possibly can (remember yesterday when I told you I was going to spam...)! If you want to use on your blog or on your website to help promote your film submission, PLEASE DO! I've already posted it up on our facebook and myspace accounts so you can always get it from there :)

Well that's all I have to say for now... I'm sure I will be back later with even more information for your Cinemocracy brain :) Talk to you soon,

A

Tuesday, 7/ 1/2008 at 11:09 am

Hello Everybody!!

I hope everyone's Monday went well :) I just have a couple of things to say today and then I'm going to get to "work"! Ok... In case you didn't read the last blog ;) there has been an extension on the submission deadline. The new deadline is August 1st. So if you've been putting it off, and putting it off you now have a little bit more time! Just keep in mind that the later you submit your film the less time it has on the site. Which, worse case scenario, means that your film has less time to get votes (insert sad face here). Alright, enough of that...

Secondly, we will be spamming you like crazy this week :)! We have paired with the Flordia Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs AND CineWomen NY, so not only will we be sending out emails to everyone we know, but we now have other people spamming on our behalf!!! I would like to send out a BIG thanks to these guys for helping us out and being interested in our festival :D. Both of these organizations will have links up on our page (within the next couple of days), under the "about us" section, so if you would like more information about either of their programs, you can find it there!

Lastly, and this is an important one... GET PEOPLE YOU KNOW TO VOTE!!!! This is especially important for all the new submissions. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell people on the street. We will be promoting as well (of course), but nothing works better than word of mouth! So if you want to spam some people too (hint, hint, wink, wink) but are not sure what to say, shoot me an email, I'll help you come up with something, acallis@cinemocracy.org. Remember that Cinemocracy has a facebook, youtube, myspace, ode magazine, OvationTV, and Twitter account. If you belong to any of those communities add us as a friend and that might make it easier for the people you know to track us down. Keep in mind that we also have a withoutabox.com listing! So if you know someone that wants to submit a film, you can always send them there too :)

Ok all, I am out of stuff to say for the moment (just wait, these "silent" spells never last long :), so I am going to get. Keep an eye out for my spam!

Hey Guys!!

I hope this Thursday is finding you all very well. The party went off smooth (imagine Shaft smooth :)! It was great, and like I said before... if you weren't in LA but you're in the good ol' CO, come and meet us at Film on the Rocks. This Monday they are showing Shaun of the Dead, and tickets are only $10 at King Soopers before the show, and $12 at the door. PLUS, you get a music show... this week the Boulder Acoustic Society will be playing!!! If you want more info on this go to denverfilm.org and click on Film on the Rocks. All the information you could ever need will be there :).

While I'm here, I also wanted to send a shout-out to Rick and his team over at MATTER. They did all of the design and all of the hard work to get our invites, T-shirts, buttons, and all other promotional stuff ready for our Political Party at LAFF. THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB!!! They also hooked you guys up with that groovy "resources" tab down at the bottom of our site. Inside that tab you will find all of our logos, postcards, web banners, and anything else you could want or need to help promote your video. Feel free to put them up on your website, or on your blog, or anywhere else you could possibly see fit :). If you want to see some of the other amazing things MATTER has done, their website is morematter.com, or if you like them as much as I do... you can find them on facebook and become a fan!!! If you do that you'll be invited to all of the cool stuff that MATTER does outside of design! I know that's my favorite part of being a MATTER fan :D

Ok... well... I'm going to go out there and get people involved! That's the best part of work! Let me know how you guys are doing, how films are coming, if you have any questions about submissions or voting, get a hold of me! My email address is acallis@cinemocracy.org, feel free to email whenever. All I ask is that you don't SPAM me; SPAM makes me a sad panda...

'till next time,

A

Monday is my favorite time of year!!

Good Monday Morning everybody! :)

I am in a good mood today, as I hope you are as well. There is a lot of exciting stuff going on lately. I don't know if anyone was at Film on the Rocks last Friday... but it was amazing. I will admit, it was my first one and I am ADDICTED!! In case you didn't know, the next showing is June 30th, and it's going to be Shaun of the Dead (in case you'll didn't know I am a little infatuated with zombies :). So get your tickets soon, and I will see you there!

On a separate note, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs (www.florida-arts.org/jobs/individual.htm), the North Dakota Council on the Arts (www.nd.gov/arts/opportunities/opportunities.htm#film), and the North Carolina Arts Council (www.ncarts.org) are all putting some information about Cinemocracy on their websites!!! So everyone get on there and check it out, they also list a TON of other opportunities for artists. It could open up a whole new world of opportunities, so let's give them all a great big THANK YOU!!!!

Lastly... (it's never ending right :) Our Cinemocracy Political Party at the Los Angeles Film Festival is happening tomorrow! So if you are in the area... get your butt over there and check it out! You'll get to meet the whole infamous Cinemocracy crew, which I know is the only reason you would go right? Who needs free food yeah? :p

All right all, have a good rest of the Monday and I will talk to you soon!

Happy Hump day everyone!!!

I hope the middle of the week finds you all well :).

I wanted to tell you guys how awesome you are doing getting people to watch films! I just looked at our numbers... and I think the highest viewed film has 653 viewings!!! There are multiple films not far behind that, so you guys are doing awesome getting people on. I'm VERY proud :). Keep on that word-of-mouth situation, it is working. One thing though, you should convince all of those viewers to vote! Call up everyone you know... spam their email boxes and cell phones, don't let them sleep a wink until they have voted on your film (and maybe a couple others :)! Ok, I'm done ranting and raving.

I also would like to tell everyone that... if you live in the CO area, we will be at every Film on the Rocks screening this summer! We will be there promoting to get more films, as well as promoting to get people to vote. We're working on making txt message voting available so that people can vote from Red Rocks on your films! We will be getting some of the films together to screen before the "feature film", and we will also have a booth somewhere in the venue. So... if you feel up to, or if you're heading up there anyways, you should swing by and introduce yourself to everyone! I know I would love to meet as many of you as possible :). Here's the link to the website with all the movies and show times, www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/detail.aspx?id=21372. Make it out there at least once if you can, it would make us all here at Cinemocracy really happy to see you!

Well, I'm going to peace-out for now :) but I will see you on the flip side!

CINEMOCRACY IS ALL A TWITTER!!

Ok... so there is a ton of stuff going on!! I am so excited about everything that I might forget a few things and then have to post again later :) I'm just kind of forgetful like that sometimes.

We created a twitter.com account!! So if you have one, follow us! And if you don't you should make one :p I will be updating it whenever we're doing something cool or fun. If we're at any events, or if there's just anything fun to say or do in general I'll be putting it there! Our name is... Cinemocracy, who knew right :)

I had mentioned in my last journal entry that we're working out all of the details of our "Glamor & Glitz" themed LAFF party. It's still in the process, BUT... I will posting the electronic version of the invitation on Cinemocracy's blog page (more than likely, on that blog only!). So if you're one of the people that actually reads that, don't worry you won't hurt my feelings :), then you will have the down-low on the entire situation before most. So keep an eye out!

Next... I am working on a competition for peeps in the Denver area. I don't have all of the details quite yet, but I should by later this afternoon! I will keep you updated... maybe by twitter :p

For right now I think I've given out enough "super-secret information"... I could never be James bond :) I will keep everyone updated and I hope you have a wonderful Monday!

YOU GUYS ARE KILLING ME... WITH GLITTER AND GLITZ!!

Hello All!

Alright, so I am soooo excited you have no idea! We have received a total of SIX new videos this week!!!! Everyone should check them out and vote. We're ramping up guys, and it's going great! For all the new people, remember to get your friends online to vote, because they are how you're going to win :)

On another note... Cinemocracy will be holding a party at the LA film festival! It's going to be pure Glitter&Glitz!! So be on the lookout for some more information on that. I still need to do some planning stuff (I guess that means I should probably be working right now, right?) for that little situation, but I will keep you'll updated for sure!

Ok, I am going to get to work :) But "I'll be back"!

A

P.S. Don't forget, if you have pictures... GIVE THEM TO ME!!!! Email them to acallis@cinemocracy.org with all the information in the email necessary to caption them correctly please :)

Wednesday, 6/ 4/2008 at 2:42 pm

Hey guys,

Well... it's now Wed. :) This is my favorite day of the week! So yesterday we created an account with del.icio.us, if you've never heard of it go check us out and tag our site!

So we recieved three new videos in the last two days!!! That is really exciting. I can't wait to see what else comes in. Remember to tell everyone you know that your video is on our site and to come and vote for it. After July 15th, the deadline for film submissions, we're going to be trying to get people on to vote... so the earlier you start the better :)

Ok, I'm going to "get back to work", maybe I'll have something fun to write about later in the day! Talk to you all soon,

A

P.S. oh yeah... don't forget, send me pictures of you while you're making your film. Or if you have a little party around your film, send me pictures of that too! I want to put some fun stuff up on our social networking sites. My email address is acallis@cinemocracy.org.

Tuesday, 6/ 3/2008 at 1:18 pm

Hey all,

So we've had a couple new submissions!!! You should check them out, and vote on them. I'm going to be switching up the movies on our facebook and youtube today... so if yours wasn't up there last week... stop by there today and see if it is :)

You know, I was thinking... I know its dangerous when I do that :p. But really, I've been trying to take pictures of the people and places that the Cinemocracy staff has been meeting or going. I have a few so far that I'll be posting soon, but I was wondering if maybe I should make you guys send us pictures too! If you take pictures while you're filming, or editing, or just creating for Cinemocracy in general SEND THEM TO ME!!! I want to put some pics up of people doing "Cinemocracy" things. So my email address is acallis@cinemocracy.org, and if you send a picture in... make sure to include the photographers name, your name, the title of your movie, and who ever might be in the picture. That way I can make sure the captions are all accurate! Alright, well, until tomorrow...

Good Night, and Good Luck :)
