Why does alcoholism and addiction cause $340 billion per year of economic damage to the US? Addiction is linked to death, incarceration, hospitalization, disability, welfare, unemployment, crime, bankruptcy and more…How can social entrepreneurship stop the damage addiction does to our society? Recovering Addicts are undervalued human resources. Society views addicts as unreliable, dishonest, lazy and difficult. My experience is addicts with a couple of years of recovery make great investments. Most of the time“recovering addicts” make great employees and entrepreneurs. Recovery teaches honesty, integrity, willingness, service and humility. Recovery enhances the natural intelligence and creativity found in addicts. How many addicts have you worked with or hired that never told you they were addicts, isn’t it better to take a chance on an addict that is honest that they are in recovery. I think so!
