Children's books with a message

While I have always liked giving the book "The Story of the Little Mole Who Went in Search of Whodunit" to my nieces and nephews and my friend's children, I now saw this little article on a couple of children's books that have stories around the theme of compassion. Nice theme, especially for the holiday season.

The article reminded me of a story (www.odemagazine.com/doc/7/a_healing_plot) we once ran in Ode about children's books that are aimed at children suffering from allergies and other sensitivities. Paul Liekens, a Belgian NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) trainer discovered that fairytales give young people the opportunity to recognize patterns in their own lives, and send them messages in their subconscious about how they can strengthen their health.

Now, I still like that book about the mole, but next time I'm buying presents for kids, I might think of a title that would help them cope better with their health issues or their social environment.
