An apology to future generations

I wrote this in order to realize better that I am still not doing enough and to realize what I can do more to help the next generations, and myself. Maybe it can help you or someone you know as well. The title is "For What It's Worth."

Dear granddaughter,

I am truly sorry. I’m ashamed to say I don’t have any excuse. I could have taken the train and ditched the old car. It might have been a little less comfortable, but it wouldn’t have really affected my life in a bad way.

I should have recycled and separated more. I have no excuse, I was lazy. I ought to have bought more environmentally-friendly products, but I guess I wanted cheap. Perhaps I even should have checked the impact on the environment by the companies I bought from. The information was at least available on the Internet. Now you inherit my money, but no environment to enjoy it in.

If I could turn back the clock, I would change my ways. I would recycle, ditch the old car and buy only durable and environmentally friendly products. If it was only to save my own soul and avoid this unbearable feeling of guilt.

After 60 years, I finally realized that true change comes from the consumer, not the manufacturers.

I truly am sorry. I hope you forgive me.

Your granddaughter cannot see your past and only holds you accountable for your todays and tomorrows - show her what you want her to know for her grandchildren and let go of the guilt.
