My World, My Choice!
My World, My Choice! is an educational program that engages students to make sustainable choices. Sustainable individual choice is the atomic linchpin of sustainable living and decision-making. It is the integral core from which stem the well-being of business, society and the environment.
The first step to making sustainable choices is to understand the meaning of sustainability - which is to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Young children, being the future generation, are the ideal recipients of this educational program - for this is the best age in which to sow the seeds of understanding of the sustainability principle.
A typical My Choice! program: Young professionals are trained as mentors to school students. In turn, mentors run classroom workshops to introduce the concept of sustainability to students. Interested students sign up for a simulation day to further deepen the concepts. Coaching employs interactive games to makes the subject matter truly engaging.
Finally, mentors guide students to create micro, do-able projects which are honored in an awards ceremony - at which point the project culminates. Students take further action by pledging their own choices.
The Results: The program is running in Calgary, Alberta in Spring 2009. The first run successfully mentored 600 students in Bangalore, India in Winter 2008.
