For golf pro, practice makes perfect. Eventually.

Amateur Steve Wilson, a rookie golf player in the Masters competition, is finally achieving his dream. After 10 years of professional golf and four years since he was reinstated as an amateur, “People ask if I’m a late bloomer,” Steve Wilson said. “Maybe I’m a slow learner.”

The focus of a recent New York Times article, Wilson is surprisingly down to earth. He shares his unexceptional college golf scores, anxiety dreams about playing in the Masters and how he let golf take a backseat to family. He's also modest about his accomplishments. In an ESPN article on the US Mid-Amateur competition that earned Wilson his invitation to the Masters, he gives credit to his caddie. "My caddie kept giving me great read after great read. He read it. I just get over and it hit it where he says."

While I honor heroes who seem born to their profession, whose focused dedication sacrifices everything for their vision, I reserve a special admiration for the Wilson heroes. Heroes that could be your next-door neighbors. Heroes that keep at it, who juggle their dreams while providing for a family. The heroes that make people stop and think, "He's like me, maybe I could do that."
