Mobius Manitou

Last July, returning from a trade show, I opted to take the train through the woods of New York home to Toronto. Train rides and hot baths have always been great ‘idea releasers’ for me; this one did not disappoint (I wonder what a bath ON a train would do!?). Not only did it release an idea, but allowed me to transition into the next phase of my life; one that is more aligned with my core values and ethics. The idea? Mobius Manitou.

The name Mobius comes from the discovery by German Mathematician August Ferdinand Mobius in 1858 and is symbolic of eternity and infinity. Though it appears double sided, a Mobius Strip can be traversed entirely and endlessly without ever stepping over an edge. Manitou, to the Algonquins of Eastern Canada and North Eastern USA, is the word for spirit, as well as for life energy. Together, the words Mobius Manitou stand for the Infinite Spirit in ourselves, the ‘other’, and the animals and nature that surround us. Mobius Manitou, the web site, hopes to provide a forum to create honouring and supportive connections between each.

So, what exactly is Mobius Manitou?

Right now, you’d think it was simply a web site. But, nope, it is far more than that. Mobius Manitou is a tool. It is a tool I hope will be used to grow a community and nurture a movement. Mobius Manitou caters to vegan, ethical, and ecoist consumers and to those looking to self actualize. It offers the ability for individuals or businesses to connect with doppelgangers for stimulating, anything-but-trivial conversation in the Social Networking segment of the site; or to learn something new through the juicy Interviews. For those looking simply to purchase with mindfulness and compassion, the site can be used like the Yellow Pages, listing new products (from books to construction materials to food to clothing to...) and services from 100% vegan, ecoist, and ethical companies in the Showcase and FinderMap, respectively.

As of the start of March, the site is now fresh, out-of-the-box new. I’m excited to see how people resonate and what will emerge from the intelligent, insightful, unique and stimulating connections, dialogue and contributions there. If nothing else, I am growing a lot through this journey. But I sure hope you’ll come and join the ride with me.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Laura/Mobius
