EARTH Presentation
A few years ago a group of educators from BC, Canada set out to try to get an objective look at the state of the world. They wanted The Big Picture, not just this or that issue, but the most essential points of every important issue. The Executive Summary of the state of the planet.
"EARTH" is an integrated collection of over 100 colorful charts and maps (all viewable on the website) summarizing the conditions of the world's natural ecology and human cultures, their interactions and impact on each other which make obvious the connections between apparently disparate topics. Topics include core statistics on forests, soil, fresh water and ocean fisheries are side by side with the numbers on climate change, carbon dioxide emissions, wealth and power, food supply and oil supply, military budgets, population density, health, poverty, access to clean water and life expectancy.
For an accurate understanding of the state of the world, humanitarian and environmental issues cannot be separated and anyone striving to understand these complex challenges. Rigorously referenced to reliable sources, "EARTH" is published in three formats; a full color 27" x 36" wall chart, a free interactive web site, or as a downloadable Power Point presentation, with 110 slides and PDF handouts with a searchable index. Each of these formats serves a particular and unique educational function which may be useful in finding out the "true" state of the world.
