Changemakers contest will award $50,000
We Media and Ashoka have teamed up to present the We Media Changemakers $50,00 Challenge. The challenge is called, "The Power of Us," and aims to find and help launch the best new ideas for inspiring a better world through media and technology. The contest invites entries from all fields. There will be two categories, one for business ventures and one for non-profit ventures. The award will be up to $50,000 in seed funding. The contest is funded by a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. Entries can be received until January 21, 2009.
We Media says they are a website, a community, a conference and a global movement to make the world a better place through media. The website provides news about the news. This includes stories about the business models for journalistic ventures and discussion about the media's role in society. It was founded in 2006 by Andrew Nachison and Dale Peskin. They also provide professional services for clients across the globe.
The other partner in the competition is Ashoka. Their website says, "Ashoka is leading a profound transformation in society. In the past three decades, the global citizen sector, led by social entrepreneurs, has grown exponentially. Just as the business sector experienced a tremendous spurt in productivity over the last century, the citizen sector is experiencing a similar revolution, with the number and sophistication of citizen organizations increasing dramatically"
Together these two organizations hope to provide a much needed reward to revolutionary Changemakers. Maybe one of them is you!
