  Hawaii mandates solar hot water heatersHawaii has become the first state in the nation to require that all new homes come equipped with solar water heaters. The new law will apply to homes built after January 1, 2010, and add about $5,000 to a home’s cost. Solar water heaters pay for themselves in a few years because they cut average electricity costs by 30-35%. Israel and Spain also require solar heating in all new homes. I heard this solar heaters are the best that can exist. The only bad thing is that they are really expansive and they take quite a large space. Besides there are only a few company that work with this kind of stuff. It's great when action that makes a difference, a real difference, finally gets taken and noticed.
Hopefully more states will follow, and more homebuilders will just do this voluntarily, as the tide for "natural hot water" rolls in.
