Project Adventure

Lost in time and space I find myself waking up in Amsterdam daily. Get on my mountain-bike and paddle to the Adventure Parc to organise adventure activities. To bring the adventure home, was the mission of Project Adventure when it all started. I was one of these kids who needn't sit in a classroom to be taught how the world works. I wanted to find out myself and so I did. Adventured all around the world, guiding people on mountain trips, kayaking, canyoning, skiing, hiking and much more. Now I pass on my knowledge and experience through working at Project Adventure Amsterdam to help kids discover their capabilities, their wants and needs, and how to get there in an ecological way. Congratulations...Your work nurutures emotional intelligence that allows children to better handle ambiguity, adversity and complexity in continuum; makes them productive world citizens. Schools must balance academic life with activities that enhances EQ to ensure balance of material success with psycho-spiritual wellness. For us adults, it is not too late to do these with kids or with people in our communities. Life is a work in progress.

Although I now live in Colorado, I grew up in Delaware. I was lucky enough to attend a school that was rather progressive in many areas including a required course of "study" in middle school, Project Adventure! It was a wonderful experience that built something of a foundation for the outdoor activities I have perused as an adult.

What an excellent idea! Some of my most memorable experiences as a kid were going on backpacking trips with my family. Nature has a way of teaching you a lot more than what you get out of a classroom.
