Events happening worldwide for the International Day of Peace
The Institute for Individual and World Peace (IIWP) is a peace organization whose mission is to identify and present the processes that promote peace. The principles serving as the cornerstones of IIWP are simple yet profound:
Peace is Present.
Peace is a choice, available regardless of any conditions.
Peace is an inner process.
Peace is the cessation of againstness
One of IIWP's recent projects is to invite communities around the world to hold an intention toward peace through creating a local peace project to celebrate the International Day of Peace.
The International Day of Peace, September 21st, 2009, was designated by the UN in 1982 to support individuals, communities, and organizations in promoting peace. In 2009, they created a web site so peace groups from around the world can post their projects and folks can find projects in their area. Visit internationaldayofpeace.org for more information.
Communities worldwide are responding by holding a range of events with a focus on peace. Here are just a few examples:
• Aruba: IIWP's Finding Peace in Today's World workshop (9/20)
• Connecticut: Random Acts of Kindness Project (month of Sept)
• Minneapolis, MN: IIWP's Finding Peace in Today's World workshop (9/21)
• Southern France: Sunrise Peace Chant (9/21)
• Santa Barbara, CA: "A Day of Peace" at Windermere Ranch (9/20)
For the most up-to-date listing on IIWP-sponsored peace events around the world, please visit IIWP's web site.
We encourage you to get involved in some way during that weekend, or throughout the year, in becoming present to greater peace within and around you.
