Gym users generate their own electricity
Green Microgym in Oregon puts the exercise bikes to even better use.
For those who find working out boring, here’s an added incentive to hit the gym. At the new Green Microgym in Portland, Oregon, customers have the satisfaction of knowing that every push of the pedal on the exercise bike supplies some of the facility’s energy. The retrofitted bikes help juice an otherwise-wind-powered motor, which feeds into the energy grid. With the addition of solar panels on the roof, the gym is on its way to becoming the nation’s first carbon-neutral workout facility.
