Gossypium: even for yoga

Marco Visscher | April 2004 issue

Abigail Garner finished her degree in textile processing engineering in 1985 she was itching to make the production process more humane. She began as an advisor to a number of clothing companies and was a member of the committee charged with establishing European Union guidelines for an Eco label guaranteeing more humane labour conditions. Four years ago she was involved at in the founding of Gossypium, a British clothing brand with high standards for environmental and social conditions.

Every article of clothing – for men, women and children – is made of organic cotton for which a fair price is paid. Gossypium, the botanical name for cotton, has now also developed a line for yoga practitioners that recently went on sale at Marks & Spencers. An important step for a brand that primarily sells via its own website.
