Ordinary Lives

Fritz Eichenberg was one of the great graphic artists of the twentieth century. His masterpieces are on a par with those of Rembrandt and Durer, both in terms of quality and subject matter. Born a Jew in Germany, he witnessed firsthand the ominous devouring of his homeland by the Nazis. So, he moved to New York, where he was able to further develop his extraordinary artistic talents. Later he became a Quaker. So, his works reflect Biblical themes, and also fantasy and social satire, among others. Now

Hi Peace, thanks for this update. Maybe this explains why Fritz' work doesn't appear in the Catholic Worker anymore. As you said, it is a shame. Such a brilliant artist with a deep social consciousness. (Anne)

The Catholic Worker would not hold the rights to Fritz Eichenberg's works. I don't believe that they hold the rights to anything in the newspaper. I have heard that someone else holds the rights to Fritz Eichenberg's art. And I don't think it appears in the Catholic Worker anymore. It is a shame because it defined the newspaper in many ways.
