Sencity at Sea: Victory!
Friday felt like a glorious day. We got the opportunity to participate in an event on the upper deck of the cruise boat. As I told you yesterday, the stage manager of that party was fully cooperative and after we had told him what we normally do in Europe at our events, he decided to give us carte blanche so we could go all the way. We get the control over the DJ's schedule and I even get to become the host of the evening. Yeah, always wanted to be an MC!
Since we already did a performance on Wednesday, we all knew we could do it, and that from our side everything was fully checked. Every idea that poped up got worked out. When we tried to find an interpreter for my MC-ing we find one the best self expressed interpreters. When we are looked for a fan for the Aroma Jockey, we found one of the most fancy fans we have ever seen. The captain tries to challenge us a little bit by announcing that there might be some rain this evening but in the end it didn’t rain at all. All the conditions were there for a blast of a party!
And so it happened! Approximately 400 visitors see a fantastic show. The deaf dancers have a great performance which are immediately followed by the sign dancers who go all the way in their freestyles. I get more and more proud of the crew. We finally can show the audience what we want them to see: a show in which deaf and hearing artists participate. In my debut as an MC I get to tell the story behind Sencity: that if you go for it, anything is possible, even the impossible.
When the party is over, at 2 am, we all go to an after party. The whole team is excited and feels…. Victorious! We have overcome a lot of trouble, resistance and breakdowns. We spend a lot of time, effort and money to do our job on this ship and it has been worth it.
Tonight there will be one more chance to show what we got, we have created that as our own party, a sort of goodbye party. Not a farewell party, ‘cause…
We will be back!
