The Readers Blog is a group blog, a collection of provocative, passionate people who represent a broad geographical, professional, personal and vocational range. New bloggers from other places and other points of view will join the conversation from time to time. Here, we invite them all to share their perspectives and opinions on the issues that matter to them most. And we invite you to respond. Let the dialogue begin!

The Recess Ends: If you were to ask President Obama one question, what would it be?

Fifty People, One Question: Washington D.C. from B-Rilla on Vimeo.

This is our second Fifty People, One Question video. We don't do this in every city we go to. We do this in the cities I believe have the most diverse group of people and the cities that have a large impact on their state and on this country.

Washington D.C. is truly a unique non-state within states. A city with a lot of energy and a lot to say. We thought it would be appropriate for us to ask the question: "If you were to ask President Obama one question, what would it be?"

You may not like him and you may love him. So, what is your question?

As I watch and listen to Pres. Obama govern, I see he is giving each of us a step by step empowerment process. Step 1 Assess the problem or obstacle. Step 2 Do due diligence to learn as many facts about all aspects of what is required to address the problem. Step 3 After listening and completing this research decide upon a plan of action. Step 4 Make your intentions clear to all involved. Step 5 Listen and welcome all views even if they are totally different from your own. Acknowledge that all of us want the best outcome. Step 6 Manage your emotions so they do not interfere with achieving your goals. Making others wrong or getting angry does not support your success. Step 7 Persevere until you reach your goals. This is how we turn problems into opportunities. To succeed and be empowered we need to avoid falling into one of the following traps, becoming cynical, feeling defeated and giving up, or dwelling in wishful thinking believing things will change on their own. We are fortunate to have a president who is an example for anyone who would like to become more emotionally intelligent and empowered. I would ask our president if when are we going to experience the change that he promised to us. With the current situation that we have it seems that the recession that we are facing is getting worse. Luckily, there are still people who manage to pull through in this time of crisis. The economic slowdown has been pretty hard on banks, and other first line lenders of credit. During this financial crisis, people have begun saving money instead of spending it, and laying off the credit cards. Instead, the number of payday loans that are taken out has been going up, and it isn't exactly surprising. It's a small loan that you pay back quickly, usually on your next payday. You have to be responsible if you get one, as cash advances aren't a reliable long term solution to economic slowdown.
