The Readers Blog is a group blog, a collection of provocative, passionate people who represent a broad geographical, professional, personal and vocational range. New bloggers from other places and other points of view will join the conversation from time to time. Here, we invite them all to share their perspectives and opinions on the issues that matter to them most. And we invite you to respond. Let the dialogue begin!

Give peace a prance

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that the headline caught my eye at once: Give Peace a Prance. Don’t you just love those clever wordplays? I do.

But then I thought about what it would mean to walk in peace, walk as peace, walk for peace, walk by peace, walk over peace, under peace, through peace. Pick your preposition. Any one will do.

So I asked myself if I truly walk in peace. A lot of the time, I do. Certainly, I always mean to walk in peace. I suppose that I daily have moments where I do not walk in peace. What then? Then I remember peace, and walk that way again. Until the next time.

So much of life, it seems to me, is the simple task of remembering. Remembering who we are, who we are choosing to be, remembering to be conscious, even remembering to remember! We have screensavers that remind us, affirmations, post-its, journals, books, friends, family, co-workers, newspapers, emails, faxes, day planners, PDAs, more reminders that we know how to remember! (We were even watching a program on television the other night which was interrupted by a commercial for the program we were watching!)

Feet are fundamental to experience on this planet. They are the basic support for able-bodied locomotion. How are you treating your feet these days? Do you even remember them? Most of us forget all about our feet until something goes wrong with them, and yet they are the lowest (geographically) servants of our wills. Our feet take us where we want to go.

So, how do you garb yours? Are your shoes comfortable, do they fit well, do you like them? Can you walk long distances in them? Do they keep you dry? In motion? Do they give you blisters? Are they a fashion statement?

Or are your shoes a reminder of the path you have chosen to take in this world? If you’re on the path of peace, consider The Pyramid Collection’s peace symbol clogs, and give peace a prance.
