The freedom of the homosexual

I went to visit some friends this weekend. I live with my girlfriend in Campinas, Brasil, it’s an 1.5 hour drive to our friend’s house in Sao Paulo. There are three of them living together, two girls and a gay guy, right in the middle of this enormous city. It’s always great to go there, the atmosphere is really relaxed. When I visit I always get a specific feeling that I also got in the Netherlands when visiting another gay friend there.

Gay people usually had to go through a hard time when deciding to open up. They had to accept, in front of public judgment, that they are who they are. And it seems that that experience gives them an edge in life.

My experience with gay people is that they judge a lot less than straight people. They are sweet to those around them and are accepting to diversity and so called flaws in others. They accept that people don’t fit a model. They are more accepting of their masculine and feminine side, in whatever mixture it comes. Most straight males are running around like chickens without heads because they need to be macho, strong, successful, funny, good looking and/or a bad ass. Gays seem to suffer less from the mass programming. They therefore also seem to have more fun and feel free to be crazy. People who accept more of themselves and others are more whole. I think that’s why I feel so comfortable around them, I don’t feel I need to pretend, because they aren’t either, Luca can be Luca.

I'm really pleased that your gay friends are such a delight to be around, Luca. Being 'gay' may sometimes be a very useful way of leaving conditioning behind, possibly giving rise to a greater possibility of seeing through the dream of separation, of living as an individual separate from Life. This comes from the not uncommon outcasting of gay people from 'society', with the tremendous mental/emotional suffering (same thing) that can cause an individual. However, there has been little evidence here to date of any greater or lesser numbers of people who have seen through the dream!

May your friends continue to be as delightful to you as you clearly are to them!

With Love.

Adam
